Introducing the Cyberjaya SFDC Development Team

What is SFDC you might ask. Definitely not KFC. It stands for Salesforce.com and it is a leader in both Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and cloud computing solutions. In short, Dell employs the Force.com platform globally to cater to our Sales Reps to track customer accounts, contacts, and sales opportunities/pipeline management.

Dell started the SFDC project as a means of globalizing the apps used and eliminate region based legacy applications. This helps to standardize tools that our sales reps use and at the same time eliminate the redundant costs of maintaining hundreds of different apps. That vision was realized in SFDC and due to it's SaaS nature, we further eliminate the hardware and infrastructure costs.

The SFDC team in Cyberjaya was formed in late 2008 to take over the development and maintenance of the Dell CRM implementation. By this time, the global roll-out of SFDC is mostly complete and the team was put to training. We number around 10 internal staff and another 8 contractors. We spent the bulk of 2009 honing our skills and learning about the Dell culture. As the application starts to stabilize, we are now the pioneers of globalizing an app with our teams of Configurators, Developers, System Admins, Data Migration, Project Managers and Business Analysts. Now we are at 2010, and we have ~24 internal team members and the numbers are still growing. You must be wondering why...

The truth is that now, other systems are coming online globally and they are all related to CRM in one way or another. Marketing Automation that uses the customer data to do smart marketing, Pricing which integrates with us to provide quotes, Partner portals that enable our partners to share sales data with us, and those are just the tip of the iceberg. Busy eh?

However the purpose of this post is not about work, we have plenty of that and enjoying every step of the way. The purpose is to show to you, the reader, that Dell Cyberjaya (Or Dell as a whole) is a great place to work. Our team culture, no matter young or old, new or experienced, each brings with them an unique characteristic and we respect that. We have instances of young achievers getting recognized for the great work they did, as do we have more experienced members gladly mentoring and sharing their skills. We hold each other responsible for the actions we take and we encourage that decisions are made and mistakes learned from (Better have tried and failed than not at all). We are composed of a multi-ethnic and multi-national team of people who respects and utilizes each others differences.

We have had great times together as a team, with team activities such as Skytrex, movies and other outings planned. Dell Cyberjaya also has tons of activities as you will see if you join our "Dell Cyberjaya" facebook page.

So come along and keep us in your minds the next time the brand Dell comes up. And by the way we are hiring: Dell Careers Site

Watch this space as we will be adding more info on other teams and hear them share their experiences with Dell. Until then...
